Mango growth is not a fixed number of feet per year. Trees grow in flushes, and the amount of extension depends on variety, temperature, root space, light, water, and nutrition. A young tree may concentrate on establishment before making obvious canopy growth, while a vigorous tree in warm conditions can become large quickly. Compare several healthy flushes and the whole growing season rather than judging from a short quiet period or assuming rapid height gain means good future fruiting.
