Start with the flavor and texture you enjoy, then compare local cropping performance, disease pressure, season, space, and the amount of pruning you can provide. Taste sound fruit at proper ripeness when possible and use documented variety records rather than a popularity list alone. A variety admired in a dry district may be a poor fit for a wet backyard, and a delicious fruit is not useful if its tree cannot be managed in your space.
