After planting a mango at the correct depth, water the original root ball and surrounding soil sufficiently to settle it without leaving standing water. Check moisture frequently during establishment, keep competing grass away, and use surface mulch without piling it against the trunk. Protect the tree from damaging wind and cold, and avoid unnecessary major pruning or a heavy early fruit load. Adjust watering as roots move into the surrounding soil rather than continuing a nursery-pot schedule indefinitely.
