Mango FAQ

Flowering & PollinationDo I need to hand-pollinate mango flowers?

Routine hand pollination is not usually necessary for an outdoor mango with suitable flowers and access to pollinating insects. Mangoes can self-pollinate, and visitors other than honey bees may move pollen between flowers. Before attempting hand work, check whether poor fruit set instead follows damaged bloom, cold, rain, or later fruit drop. An indoor or tightly enclosed tree may have restricted insect access, but manually transferring pollen still cannot guarantee a crop or compensate for unhealthy flowers.
